There are stories within every child, even if those stories are as simple as “I broke my toy and I cried” or as complex as “The unicorn was running with the princess in the forest, and then the birds came, and they all played for a while.” Children’s narratives help them talk about the world around them and stretch their imaginations. Toonia Storymaker turns these narratives into mini-books that can be saved and shared. At Fun Educational Apps, we applaud developers who show us new ways to use technology to unlock a child’s creativity, so we award our latest Top Pick to Toonia Storymaker.

There are some really great apps available to help teachers solve this problem. Giving students the option of creating something from their writing is an easy way to hook students and get them invested in writing. From sock puppets to multi-scene cartoons, these apps are our top picks for Story Animation.

Recently, I was speaking with the parent of a child who will be entering kindergarten next fall. She was concerned that, perhaps, her son would not be ready for the academic challenges he would face. I identified six concept areas that we assess in our district-wide kindergarten screening program: letter identification (upper and lower case), phonics, rote counting, shape recognition, colors, and number sets. TeachMe: Toddler is an all-in-one readiness app that covers all six of these important conceptual skills. Its easy-to-use format and its ability to collect data to show a child’s growth make it a great value and a Top Pick for us at Fun Educational Apps.
If you’ve ever played Peek-A-Boo with a baby, you know how delightfully they respond to the inflection changes in your voice. Where’s My Baby? is an app for toddlers that uses the same concept to present a “lostand found” story featuring mother animals and their babies. Fun Educational Apps awards Where’s My Baby? a Top Pick because it is a fun, easy-to-follow story that will tickle your child’s imagination.
