We're so excited about Traffic-Programming for Beginners that we've chosen it as a TOP PICK for Fun Educational Apps in the category of coding apps for children.

How the App Works-
Traffic- Programming for Beginners was developed by Scientia Software LLC, and is available for iOS devices. The first six levels are free to download. Levels 7-32 can be accessed with an in-app purchase (IAP).
Traffic-Programming for Beginners encourages children to figure out how to get an object (in this case a car or a truck) to move by giving it instructions. For instance, "If the road turns right, steer right." There is an excellent tutorial that introduces each level and explains what happens next. It also gives examples of how to use it. Creating the programs is easy, because the directions are already written- they just need to be put together in the right order using the right connecting words.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked-
The developer of Traffic- Programming for Beginners is both a software engineer and a dad. In his submission statement, he spoke passionately about the need to encourage children (both boys and girls) to develop skills in computer engineering and computer science.
As an adult with very little background in this field, I found I was able to follow the "rules" to make the cars do what I wanted them to- that is, up to a point. Once I got into the higher levels, I needed to rely on the hints to help me make my cars move correctly. What is amazing is to watch children who can figure out the coding sequences on their own after only a few demonstrations.
In a Nutshell-
Traffic- Programming for Beginners explains how computer coding works at its simplest level. A series of instructions is used to create a "program" that sets a car in motion. When the Run command is activated, it's possible to see whether or not the program was successful. The app encourages trial and error learning with no time constraints, and hints are readily available when the user gets stuck. For its excellence in technical design, Traffic-Programming for Beginners has earned a TOP PICK from Fun Educational Apps.
