From the time they are very young, boys and girls are being encouraged to explore technology and learn about its many wonders. Messy Mia- and the Tale of Ancient Tech is a cute story app that looks at today's technology from a unique perspective and compares it to what was available once upon a time.
Messy Mia- and the Tale of Ancient Tech is designed for both IOS and Android tablet devices by Touch Tech Kids, a division of Avatar Generation. It is available in both English and Spanish translations. There is a read-to-me option as well as a read-by-myself option.
Have a look:
Each page contains animations that are clearly marked and add fun details to the story. Also included are four mini games, which provide another way to explore the advancements of technology in today's world. A Reflection Section has space for your child to write down some thoughts, questions, and ideas.
The main character is a clever little named Mia. Like many children her age, Mia has trouble keeping her room organized. To be perfectly honest, Mia's room is a disaster. While searching under her bed for a missing remote control, she encounters a little robot named Zed. He gives her a new appreciation of all the technological wonders that she takes for granted, including cell phones and television remote controls. This gives Mia a change of heart plus an incentive to take better care of her electronic gadgets.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked-
Messy Mia- and the Tale of Ancient Tech is the first in a series of story apps starring little Mia. Parents will enjoy reading this app with their children, especially if they can share their own stories of "Back when I was growing up..."
It is astonishing for children to realize how many of the devices they can't live without didn't exist even ten years ago. Looking at the past, it's also fun to imagine what kind of fantastic devices will be available ten years from now. Chances are, the next breakthrough in technology will be engineered by someone just like Mia!
Aside from the story itself, the mini-games seem to be an after-thought. The activities (memory game, matching) are at a very basic level and are more suited to preschool age children. Still, I like the positive message Messy Mia- and the Tale of Ancient Tech provides, and it does so in an interesting way.
At the time of this review, Messy Mia- and the Tale of Ancient Tech does not contain ads or in-app purchases. There are no connections to the web or social media from the app.
