Fairy Tales- 3D Interactive Pop-up Books is a treasury of eight fairy tales that have been adapted to a digital platform. The stories appeal to children ages 2-5 and their parents, who will enjoy these timeless tales and the messages they bring about hard work, bravery, and overcoming obstacles.
Fairy Tales- 3D Interactive Pop-up Books, by AmayaSoft, is designed for all IOS devices, including the iPad, the iPhone andthe iPod touch and Android devices. A basic version comes with one title, "The Princess and the Pea"; the other stories are available as in-app purchases. They include:
- Mother Snow
- The Three Little Pigs
- Goldilocks and the Three Bears
- The Enormous Turnip
- The Three Spinners
- The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids
Have a look:
The opening screen shows the Reading Tree, on which the books are displayed. From this screen it is possible to access the Parent page (to customize the reading options) plus the link to the App Store, which is used for making in-app purchases. Touch one of the books and it opens in a new screen. There are different options to accommodate all reading levels: autoplay (story is narrated and pages turn automatically) for beginners, read-to-me (story is narrated but pages do not advance automatically) for intermediate readers, and read-by-myself (no narration or automatic page turning) for independent readers. At the bottom of each page are arrows; the right arrow moves on to the next page and the left arrow goes back to the previous page.
Each title in Fairy Tales- 3D Interactive Pop-up Books contains "pop-up pages" with colorful details and clever animations that bring the characters to life. You and your child can see the pigs playing in the summer and then paying the price when the wolf comes to call. Or, you can help the queen hide the pea under a stack of down quilts as a test for the soaking wet princess. The pop-ups are totally delightful and much more fun than traditional illustrations.
Another nice feature of Fairy Tales- 3D Interactive Pop-up Books is a Bonus Game called Star Dust. Find it by touching the telescope in the lower right corner on the opening screen. This is an activity in which your child rotates a design until it turns into an image of a person or an object from one of the stories. It takes a little while to figure out how to find the hidden pictures, but hints are available to give your child a clue.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked-
The pop-up animations alone give this app high entertainment value. It is the perfect app for a child to curl up in a quiet corner with a mug of hot chocolate on a cold winter day. Fairy Tales- 3D Interactive Pop-up Books provides nicely detailed stories with well-written dialogue that has been updated for a new audience.
Some parents may shy away from fairy tales, perhaps because they think the stories are old, out of date, and irrelevant. If you think about it, though, imaginary tales about talking animals and princesses aren't so uncommon in modern children's literature either. In the end, these are stories that teach important lessons for this generation, too. If you want to add fairy tales to your child's digital library, Fairy Tales- 3D Interactive Pop-up Books is a great choice.
