Emil and Pauline in the City is a fun hidden object iPad game app, with a twist. Geared toward children in the four to six years old range, this app makes children use their brain to solve a puzzle before searching for items in three busy scenes.
Emil and Pauline in the City by USM is a busy hidden object game, featuring three familiar scenes. Users search a grocery store, city block, and park for specific items. Bright cartoony illustrations are buzzing with activity. Finding the objects brings them to life with cute animations and sound effects.
Meet Emil the polar bear and Pauline the penguin as they guide users through the game with very specific directions and help. After choosing a character to play as, children must listen to Emil and Pauline's directions to figure out what item needs to be found. Players must identify shadow images, recognize letters and numbers, watch for an item that is left out, work through mazes, and match similar objects before searching. Each of these mini games is played for each item to be found in a level. Each level features a different mini game.
After identifying the mystery object, users next must find the object in the picture. The pictures are bustling with animations and objects. Some of the items are hidden in plain sight, while others are strategically tucked in a naturally clever setting. If a player gets stuck, tap the medical kit for help. Emil and Pauline will play a version of Hot or Cold with users as they run their finger across the screen. Getting hotter means you are getting closer to the object!
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
This is a great app! It's a lot of fun for the preschool and kindergarten crowd. I loved that children had to work to figure out what items to search for, instead of just being given a list of items. By making players reason out the items, the developers have turned a basic search and find app into a brain-training endeavor. I liked that there were easy to solve puzzles like number and letter identification and shadows, but also harder puzzles like matching similar items and watching to see what item was left out. I loved how much patience and attention was needed during the watch to see activity. What a great way for kids to extend their attention. Additionally, the scenes were full of fun activities and animations. Every time we played we noticed something different.
Overall, Emil and Pauline in the City is a great hidden object game that actually makes children use their brains before searching for items. The puzzles are clever and vary in difficulty, giving everyone something to enjoy. This app will keep your little observer occupied for hours!
