Crayola is a staple in any classroom across the country. Their crayons, markers, and paints are tried and true tools for any parent or teacher. Crayola's Color, Draw & Sing meets those same high expectations and standards that we've come to love about Crayola. Children will enjoy connecting music to coloring in this artistic app.
Crayola Color, Draw & Sing by Legacy Games is a coloring app for iOS and Android devices with a twist. Users select one of over 40 different coloring sheets, and one of ten popular kid's songs. The catch is that as users choose different colors for their artwork, a new instrument begins playing. By the time the picture is finished, a complete tune is playing in the background.
Have a look:
The actual coloring sheets are very easy to use. There are a range of pictures to color, from simple to slightly more complex. None are so detailed that you cannot color each part with your finger. The coloring tools pop up from a familiar Crayola crayon box. Users can choose to color with crayon or marker - both following the path of your finger. Artists can also choose to use paint, which is splattered with your finger, but definitely has some constraints so that the paint doesn't easily overlap the lines. To choose one of over 50 original Crayola colors, simply spin the color wheel until you get to the color family you want. In addition to these tools, users can also decorate the artwork with stickers. Snap a picture to save your masterpiece to the gallery.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
Crayola didn't let me down. This is a great coloring app. There are a lot of coloring apps out there, but this is definitely one of the best. I loved the tool box and spinning the color wheel to find the crayon I wanted to use. I also love the different textures when I chose to use the crayon versus the marker or paint. The picture range was great. There were some easier ones for the younger artists and some with a bit more complexity for the older painters.
The music component was also well thought out. By adding a new instrument with each color, the app automatically encourages children to use a variety of colors in their artwork. My child stayed engaged with the image until it was done. Anyone with a five year old boy knows that can be tough. Now if only they could make this app smell like a brand new box of Crayola crayons!
Crayola Color, Draw & Sing is availabe for downlaod via the iTunes App Store for iOS devices (iPad/iPhone/iPod) and via Google Play and Amazon Store for Android devices (free to try with in-app-purchase).

At the time of this review, the app had no ads or in-app purchases. It does have external links to other games and social media behind a parent gate.
