Laura's Star and The Dream Monsters is a sweet bedtime story featuring a little girl, her brother, and her magical star. This interactive story is full of small animations and interactions and has a plot perfect for bedtime reading.
Join Laura and her brother Tommy in the story Laura's Star and Dream Monsters, by Bastei Luebbe, developer of several apps featuring Laura and her star. Together with Laura's star, the siblings head to the City of Dreams in search of Tommy's Protect Me Dog. It has been stolen by the Dream Monsters that invaded Tommy's dream. Through the magic of Laura's star, the two make their way to the middle of the City of Dreams and face off against the Dream Monsters.
This is a sweet story that is perfect for bedtime reading. While it is an interactive story, it isn't a book. It doesn't have any text. It is a narrated story set to colorful illustrations. It features sixty interactions, animations, and sound effects that are hidden within the pages. Moving objects are hints to show where the animations are hidden. There are also two interactive activities where users guide Laura and her brother on their journey. The story is easily navigated through with a set of arrows, but can also be controlled from an index page that shows each page of the story.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
This is a sweet story, that is calm and soothing, and great for a bed time read. It has interactions and animations that are engaging for kids, but not overwhelming. The story doesn't get lost in the animations. The narration is smooth and available in three languages. It is a simple app, but easy to use and completely intuitive. It could easily be used by a child independently, or enjoyed by a family as they snuggle up for bed. The only thing I'd like to see is an option for the text to be played on screen. As a teacher, I'd love to have that reinforcement as the story is narrated.
Overall, Laura's Star and the Dream Monsters is a sweet bedtime story that children can relate to. Its smooth narration, gentle animations, and interactive components are a perfect mix appropriate for children getting ready for their own trip to the City of Dreams.
