Tribal Nova has done it again. Curious George Goes Camping by iRead With is another Top Pick as an interactive reading experience. It is so much more than just a book; it is a great way for parents and children to interact with a childhood classic.
Tribal Nova is an expert at creating children's apps and they've done it again with Curious George Goes Camping by iRead With. The Curious George books are true children's classics. This app not only enhances the original story, it creates a fun and educational place for parents and children to interact with literature.
Have a look:
There are two options for reading the story. A standard Listen version, where children can hear the story read aloud, or a Read and Talk option. The Read and Talk option is one of the best aspects of this app. After the parent and child choose avatars, the story comes on screen. The plot and illustrations are straight from the original storybook. As the parent reads the story aloud, the avatars pop up to encourage discussion between parent and child. With three levels of discussion questions, the app has a place for every child. The discussion prompt pops ups for the parent avatar, with an option for a hint on the child avatar. Questions range from basic detail recall to opinion-based questions where children make connections with the text.
There is also a Theatre option for children to play with. It provides background scenes from the story, and a variety of stickers that users can add to the scene to recreate portions of the story. The stickers can be moved and resized to fit the scene and the child's imagination.
Living words are the last unique aspect of the app. At least one vocabulary word from each page of the story has been identified as a living word. Parents can record themselves reading the word. When the vocabulary comes up, children tap the word to hear their parent read it, and see it come to life with an animation.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
I love this app! I'm a big fan of Curious George, but to be honest, the books are dated and the new generations are not as engaged by the illustrations. This app does a great job of leaving the original story and illustrations alone, but adding animations, interactions, and living words to each page to engage children. The book literally comes to life as Curious George runs across the screen. I love the different levels of questions available for parents. Being able to choose the level that best fits your child is a great way for parents to customize the experience. I also love, love, love, that the focus is on the discussion between parent and child during reading. What a great way for parents to extend learning at home.
Overall, Curious George Goes Camping by iRead With is an outstanding Top Pick that brings reading to life. It is a great way for kids and parents to read and learn together and is fun for the entire family.
