Milestones are important to celebrate, and this particular milestone, reaching two million English language learners (both native and non-native speakers), is especially significant. It establishes Fun English Course as a premier level app with world-wide appeal. After checking it out for myself, I agree that it offers a solid core vocabulary reinforced through interesting and enjoyable gameplay. It becomes our latest Top Pick for Fun Educational Apps.Fun Educational Apps TOP PICKS

With clever titles such as “Tumble,” “ Number Hunt,” “ Traffic,” “Word Pilot,” and “Word Swim,” the games allow children to see, hear, use, and spell the target vocabulary. Words are presented in single word form, in short phrases, in questions, and in complete sentences to develop their meanings in context as well. All games are scored, and it is possible to achieve a higher score by playing again.
Fun English Course consists of ten lessons, with five games or songs per lesson, covering the following themes:
- the body
- the house
- sea animals (newest addition)
What Fun Educational Apps Liked-
Fun English Course is a fast paced, engaging set of learning games that teach vocabulary, grammar, and spelling. Although originally intended for English language learners, the app has caught on with native speaking preschoolers as well, who are captivated by the lively characters and error-free learning in the lessons. My favorite games are “Whack” and “Traffic”. “Whack” is a familiar game where the child must touch the animal whose name he hears before the animal ducks back into the hole. In “Traffic,” the child is asked to choose vehicles based on adjectives like bigger and smaller as they motor across the screen. Also included are a couple of snappy songs, entitled "Mood for Food" and "Sea Song."
I must note a couple of issues I have with the app. Many of the plural forms of words are not pronounced correctly; as a result, the speaker refers to two monkey, three tiger, two bear, three dog. Also, in the game, “The Right Place,” children are instructed to put household items (sink, bookcase, TV) into rooms where they do not belong; this may prove confusing for some children. Fixing these issues will improve an already solid entry that is a Top Pick for Fun Educational Apps in the category of English language learning.
