Cheese Luise is a new app available for IOS devices (iPhone, iPad, and IPod touch) that was developed by Pixxadoo. The app is free to download with limited content; additional activities are available through an in-app purchase (IAP). No verbal directions are needed to use this app; instead, there are arrows at the top of the screen, which direct the user back to the main screen (up arrow- left side) or to another activity with the animal that has been selected (right arrow-right side). All the animals are found on the main screen, and touching one opens up a new screen featuring it.
Have a look:
Max lives on a farm in Switzerland with his animal friends: Luise the goat, Flo the dog, Lady Bell the sheep, Kasimir the horse, and Suzie the pig. The name Cheese Luise refers to the fact that Max is a budding photographer who likes to take pictures of his friends, even when they are in unfortunate or unexpected situations. I can just imagine Max yelling “Cheese,” just before he snaps a photo of Flo the puppy upending the clothes line and winding up at the bottom of a pile of laundry.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked-
Cheese Luise is a great way for your toddler to learn how simple apps work, and how to negotiate around in an app environment. The illustrator has been able to create different personalities for all of the critters by using clever facial expressions. I like the layout of this app, because it can be used in any order. The activities require only two movements, “touch,” and “swipe”. Opportunities for parents to ask questions and elicit comments from their toddler are plentiful on each new screen.
Overall, Cheese Luise is simple enough for a 2 year old to use, whether it’s whisking straw off grumpy Luise or shearing sheep with a buzzing shaver. The graphics and the gameplay meet expectations, although I think the app may not provide enough challenge for a 6 year old. The Parent section (portal protected) contains information about the characters that add to the enjoyment of the game.
