Developer SuperBot Entertainment and Section Studio has created a cute app following Cecil the cuttlefish as he plays with his friends. Interactive components engage readers and a narrated text allows all children to access the story. Vivid graphics and colors will grab users as they swim through the sea.
Cecil the cuttlefish has a tight group of friends including a sea turtle, killer whale, seahorse and jellyfish sisters. Join their group as they go about their day in the coral reef. Follow Cecil as he zooms through the anemones, has a sand fight with the jelly fish, and heads to the castle to visit Justin the seahorse. After a long day of play, the friends settle down for a sleepover to keep Justin from being sad.
Users tap and slide their way through this app. Each page has an interactive component that children will enjoy discovering. A helping hand points out the interaction if a reader takes too long to tap. Users can change Cecil's color, have a sand fight, play tug of war, and light up the night. Each page has something different. The narrated text scrolls along the bottom of the screen with arrows to control the text if readers want to review what was read. Additionally, the menu allows users to turn off the narration or background music if they'd prefer to read the text independently.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
This is a cute app, appropriate for toddlers and preschoolers. Young children will definitely appreciate the bright colors and interactions of the story. While there are only a few animations on each screen, it seems just right for these young readers. The variety of animations was also nice. The sand fight and burping pages were definitely a big hit with my four year old. The story has a nice message of friendship and the narration is smooth and fluent. My only complaint is that there is a short loading page between each of the storybook pages. My son's attention began to wander during these transitions.
Overall, CuddleFish Friends is a cute story book app that young children will enjoy experiencing. The animations and colors are engaging and the message of friendship is one that young children can identify with.
