Baby Tap Ding! English Shapes Numbers Letters Animals by developer SUM Interactive, is a very simple app designed to teach our youngest learners essential skills. While the game interaction is incredibly simple, it is honestly perfect for little fingers just learning how to manipulate an iPod or iPad. Children explore a variety of shapes, colors, numbers, letters, and cute little animals, simply by tapping on the item.
Baby Tap Ding! comes by its name honestly. On the first page, simply tap which category you would like explore: shapes, numbers, letters, or animals. Then as children tap the falling objects - the app dings. It's really that simple. Depending on the category chosen, objects drop from the sky in varying speeds. The black objects are easy for babies to follow (playing on the idea that black and white are easier for infant eyes to track) and turn colors when the baby hits them. As the object is tapped, the app says the name aloud. Tap again and the color is stated. Children can tap an assortment of shapes with funny little faces, letters and numbers - also with cute faces, and little illustrated animals.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
This app is so very, very simple, and so very wonderful. I loved how simple the idea was and how well it was executed. The four different categories are essential skills for toddlers and a great introduction to basic ideas. The falling black objects are easy to track and I like that they change color when they are tapped. The hope is that as babies move from basic hand smashing the app, they'll develop better hand eye coordination and begin tapping with purpose. The assortment of shapes was diverse including diamonds and octagons, and the animal selection was equally cute and fun. Plus, the little faces were eye catching and different. Just a little detail that added to the quality of the app.
Overall, Baby Tap Ding! is a great app for young babies and toddlers just beginning to explore iPods. The simple idea of tapping falling objects is executed brilliantly. It has earned our Top Pick as a baby and toddler app. I'm anxious to try this one out with my own baby and can't wait to see her expressions.
