Developer MSE Games has played on the traditional puzzle game to create Addition Blocks for Education. Link different digits to create the sum falling from the sky. Connect blocks vertically or horizontally or any combination of both to create the total. Players must beat the falling block before it falls. Clear the board to earn bonuses and achievements.
View it in Action:
This is a simple game to play, and needs very little instruction to begin. From the main menu, players can tap the How to Play button to get visual and written directions. Tap the Options menu to adjust the speed, difficulty, mode, sound, and multipliers. View Medals and High Scores here as well. Or just tap Play Now to begin.
Users are given a screen full of single digit numbers and a falling grey square with a sum in it. Simply drag a finger through connecting blocks to create the same total. Students can use any number of blocks they like to solve the problem. The blocks disappear if they add up to the correct answer and the rest of the blocks squish together. Clear the board by either wiping out all of the blocks or by not having enough blocks left to create the sum.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
This app is similar to other block style puzzle games and will hook children by simply being addicting. Children have the freedom to create any addition problem they like and can go anywhere on the screen to answer each falling block. The ability to explore numbers this way is a great way for young children to experience math. One aspect I liked a lot is the multiplier option. By default, it is turned off. But if children have mastered basic addition skills, turning on multipliers adds a multiplication aspect to this game. Any multiple of the falling number counts as bonus points. This aspect makes the game appropriate for older children learning times tables as well. I love games that extend their usability by adding another challenge.
Overall, Addition Blocks Pro is a fun puzzle game that will have children age five and up practicing basic addition - and possibly multiplication, with free exploration. Puzzling out sums by swiping blocks will allow children to play with their math as they grow.

Note to Parents:
This app was reviewed by Sarah Emerling, a mom, teacher, and technology coach. She can attest to the addictive nature of this game, and is slightly embarrassed at how long it took her to find some of the sums. You can follow her ed. tech. blog at The iLesson Lady.
