According to scientists, about three quarters of the Earth’s surface is water. Many children have a special attraction for the creatures that inhabit the vast oceans of the world, including whales, sharks, manatees, and dolphins. Sea Urchins Magazine is a relatively new publication that is dedicated to these animals, their habitat, and their survival.Fun Educational Apps TOP PICKS
Fun Educational Apps awards it a Top Pick for its child-friendly format and its goal of raising awareness of the issues affecting these beautiful, somewhat mysterious creatures.
The Sea Urchins Magazine app is free to download, but the actual magazines must be purchased separately, either through a subscription or by individual issue. (As with all in-app purchases, clear expectations must be set with children about the rules for making such purchases.) Each issue highlights a particular marine animal, and contains informative articles, fun facts, interviews with experts, crafts, and incredible full-color photos. Previous issues have focused on seahorses, dolphins, whales, and turtles.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked-
Sea Urchins Magazine will appeal to children of all ages. Younger children can enjoy
the cartoons and the photos, much like a picture book, and they can get their parents or grandparents to read the articles to them. Older children can read the magazine independently. I like the way pages can be viewed in full size and in thumbnail size. That makes navigating back and forth easy. One of the regular features in each issue is a continuing story about the Sea Urchins’ superhero marine team, whose mission is to save and protect the ocean and the animals living in it. Look for Spike the Sea Urchin, Whoa the Whale, and Stacey the Seahorse.
If your child is fascinated by ocean animals, this is a perfect way to encourage that
interest. With up to the minute information, Sea Urchins is an outstanding resource that they can return to again and again. The underlying message found throughout the magazine is that ocean animals deserve our respect and protection, so that they can live and thrive for generations to come. Fun Educational Apps recommends Sea Urchins Magazine and awards it a Top Pick in the category of science education and ecology.
