|Fun Educational Apps TOP PICKS|
In today’s market, in order for an educational app to rise to the top of the charts, it
must have the following:
- solid educational content
- high-end graphics and sound
- intuitive user interface
- high entertainment value
In a nutshell, this is exactly what we found in GOZOA- Play & Learn Math. It will captivate your child for hours, while reinforcing math standards established for kindergarten in the Common Core. It’s our latest Top Pick here at Fun Educational Apps because it meets all of the requirements for premier status in the category of math apps for children ages 5-8.
GOZOA Play & Learn Math by Gozoa is available for the iPad through iTunes and the Android platform through Google Play. The story behind GOZOA’s journey is similar to many other game apps. GOZOA is a little creature who has done a wonderful thing: he has collected all nine star numbers for his village and hung them up in the sky. Enter the evil villain, who steals them from the villagers. In order to get them back, GOZOA must go on a quest to find the villain and recover the precious star numbers.
There are six math challenges per level. Each challenge lasts approximately 2-3 minutes, and there is enough variety in the activities to prevent your child from becoming bored. Along the way, he also collects coins which can be used at the store to purchase fun costumes and baubles. At the end of the level, GOZOA has a chance to catch the evil villain and get one of his star numbers back.
GOZOA- Play & Learn Math comes in two versions: the lite version is free to try and offers the option of making in-app purchases to complete the game; the full version requires no additional purchases. Because GOZOA- Play & Learn Math was developed in Denmark, there is one challenge that may cause some confusion. This challenge requires children to count coins. The designation of the coins in the game is kr, which stands for krone, the Danish currency. This difference does not affect the game play, but may cause parents to wonder what the letters stand for.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked-
Kids are familiar with this type of game scenario. Whether it’s Mario and Luigi, Sonic the Hedgehog, or X-men, the theme of good vs. evil is commonly used. What plays differently in GOZOA is that in order to enjoy the jump and run part of the game, your child has to complete challenges that require knowledge of math-related concepts. These include: writing numerals 0-9, recognizing numbers in sequence, replacing missing numbers, matching numerals to quantities 1-9 and 10-19, recognizing symmetry, completing patterns, and skip counting, to name a few. Although the levels may seem easy at first, they advance in difficulty as the game progresses. By the end, your child will no doubt find the questions rather challenging.
In the world of tablets, some apps are designed for learning, while others are designed for
playing. GOZOA- Play & Learn Math has found the sweet spot where the two purposes overlap. At Fun Educational Apps, we give GOZOA high marks for knowing what math concepts to include and how to keep children interested in playing the game. We
highly recommend you check out GOZOA Play & Learn, our latest Top Pick.
