4Kid Share by developer 4Kid Cal LLC is daily calendar app designed with kids in mind. It is fully customizable and easy to use. Kids can add their own events to a calendar, and with parental approval, share the events via Facebook, email, or text message. By creating events using pictures and audio recordings, even young children can add events to the family calendar.
The app has the user register a profile before beginning. Adding a picture is optional. From there the app is easy to use. A monthly calendar appears and users simply tap the date they want to add. After tapping the date, users tap one of 56 icons to represent the event - birthday cake, basketball, music note, swing set, etc. After choosing an image, users tap the microphone to record an audio message about the event. Play the message and save it or delete it. Messages can last up to 30 seconds.
From here, users can also share their event. After tapping share, users can post the event through an approved Facebook account. Parents must unlock this by answering a math question that younger kids might not know - but kids over the age of 8 might be able to access this parent lock without a parent. From the share menu users can also email the event or send it by text message. The text message is sent as a link to the calendar app and does not include anything about the actual event.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
This app is a unique take on family time management and I really like the concept of involving the whole family. Kids can easily share their own items and it's a neat way to make their events as important as anything else going on. By having the children leave audio messages about the event, all kids can participate, not just those ready to write. I appreciate the ability to share via email, text, or Facebook - but wish that the text option actually sent the event, not a link to the app. I like the app's attempt at parental locks too - and find it great for our youngest planners. But access to Facebook and email will be easy to achieve once kids are able to do division problems. Perhaps a password protected parent lock would be better for our older children.
Overall, 4Kid Share is a family planning app that is great for involving everyone in the family. Its audio recordings are perfect for kids wanting to share their events with the family. The ease of use and visual appeal of the calendar are definite plusses for this app. I only wish the sharing were a little less about the app and more about the event.

Note to Parents:
Because this app is so dependent on the social sharing features, we are including the message on the app's iTunes page from the developer regarding the privacy protection on this app:
The 4KidShare App operator does not collect or distribute any personal information. The App permits integration with Facebook, and permits a child or parent to access email and text message accounts from within the App for personal use only in order to share pictures and messages. All pictures and audio clips uploaded to the App are stored locally on the parent or child’s iPhone, iPod, or iPad; such information is never collected by or sent to the App operator. The App only permits distribution by the end user. A parental lock has been installed on the device that enables parents to control whether the child may use the social networking functions and pops up before the child may utilize Facebook, email, or text. For further information or questions, please address any inquiries to firstname.lastname@example.org."
