For example, in the farm animal category, there are pictures of a cat, a turkey, a cow, a donkey, a dog, a horse, and a goose. For each picture, there are four examples of the sound it makes. Most sound clips are 1-3 seconds in length and clearly recognizable. Sound Tap Quiz can be used two different ways. As an exploration tool, your child can choose a picture and tap on it to hear the sound the object makes; as an educational tool, you can set up quizzes, so that the child listens to the sound and matches it with the correct picture. The Settings page gives you the choice to include text with the pictures, a nice feature for older children. It also offers seven language options (English, German, Italian, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and Polish).
What Fun Educational Apps Liked-
The ability to identify environmental sounds is the first stage of auditory processing in
children. What seems like such a simple activity is actually very enjoyable for preschoolers, especially when it is divided up into categories. I did some checking in the App store, and was surprised to find that most sound effects apps are not geared toward children, and quite a few are plagued by technical glitches like freezing and shutting down (especially those that are free). Sound Tap Quiz works smoothly and delivers sound effects that children can readily identify. Its user interface is clean and simple with clear, high quality photographs, not drawings.
Sound Tap Quiz is available in both a full version and a lite version. This is a
great app that exceeds my expectations. I have already added it to my sound
awareness unit, and I’ve gotten good results. For these reasons, it has earned a Top Pick from Fun Educational Apps.
