Wee Kids Word Games by Ebooks & Kids is a universal app (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Android). Like all the other apps in the Wee Kids series, Wee Kids Word Games uses a theme, in this case the circus, to tie all seven of its games together. The first two promote letter recognition and beginning letters, and the other five target word recognition. The last three games are well-known and popular with kids- hangman, word search and crossword.
After seeing all three of the apps currently available in this series, I can tell a lot about the developer’s goals, because they all share some common features:
- They are clearly organized and leveled by difficulty, with the easier games first.
- They have no written directions. A Help screen demonstrates how to play each
- They are colorful and visually appealing for children age 5 and up.
- They are age appropriate in content and theme.
- They are filled with creative touches that elevate them above their competitors.
- They contain no ads or in-app purchases.
As a lover of word puzzles myself, I was pleased to see how well Wee Kids Word Games adapted its word puzzles for the younger audience. The games can be played solo, or they can be
played with another child or an adult.
With so many word game apps available in the App Store, it’s hard to tell one from another. This is especially true if the only description you get is a few comments in the App Store listing. Wee Kids Word Games will not teach your child how to read; it’s not set up to do that. What it will do is reinforce your child’s reading skills and let him play games using letters and words he already knows. The games are fun and much like the ones grow-ups enjoy, but adapted for children.
Wee Kids Word Games is available in the following languages : Chinese, French, German, Japanese, English, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Russian.
Wee Kids Word Games is available for download via the iTunes App Store - Universal App
