Looking for a great app for practicing numbers? Count Up to Ten by Seven Academy is our newest Top Pick as a preschool app. With a variety of activities, engaging graphics, and a cute little narrator, this app will keep your preschooler counting.
Available for - iOS and Android kids apps
Count Up to Ten has a wealth of activities for young learners. From tracing, to counting, to number recognition and number association, the app covers all of the basic early number skills. Players choose one of four different activities: Penguins-Discover Numbers, Mole-Trace the Digits, Manta Ray - Numbers and Quantities, or Elephants - Identify Quantities. Each of these activities has three progressively harder levels.
Each activity is narrated by a cute little owl who encourages, gives directions, and praises students. Each level is scaffolded to teach players to be independent with number skills. For instance, Penguins teaches student about numbers. Players tap to count with each sequenced number showing up in the whale's water spout. On level two, the whale doesn't show the last number. On level three, the numbers are out of order and the whale doesn't give as many hints.
The other games are also leveled. Mole teaches children how to trace each number. Users guide little moles through the dirt in search of worms as they trace each number. Those levels move to independent tracing. Manta Ray has students move little sucker fish to the Manta Ray's belly to count and match numbers. The highest level here has students match out of sequence numbers independently. Lastly, Elephants has students count and match numbers to rows of elephants. The highest level matches and orders numbers 1-10.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
Count Up to Ten earned a top pick status because of the quality and quantity of activities focused on early number skills. Preschoolers will be instantly engaged with the animal themed activities. I really liked that each of the levels was scaffolded. The first activity teaches and provides practice. The highest level provides harder independent practice and deeper thought. Each game is fully interactive and interesting. The app provides students with a range of ways to learn, practice, and apply number skills. Details like the wriggling worms in the tracing section and the number hints from the whale in Penguins make this app stand out about the rest. An added feature that my son loved was a Bonus feature on each page. This short narration about the real animal that is featured in each segment are informative and factual. One last feature I'm eager to see come to fruition is the Green Academy. Players earn flowers, water, and sun to plant and nurture as they play.
Overall, Count Up to Ten is a comprehensive counting app. It has a range of activities and levels that will help parents give preschool children a structured environment for learning and practicing essential number skills. Adorable graphics, a cute narrator, a variety of activities, and plain old fun will make this a top pick for any child.
