Animal Train For Toddlers by developer Yomio is a fun little app for the toddler crowd. The app opens directly to a train engine being driven by a dog. There are no directions or other buttons for children to tap, simply the train. Tap on the dog to hear him bark, the smoke stack to bring more smoke, or the train whistle to hear the horn. Swipe to see the next car in line.
The next train car carries a trio of little rabbits, a cat, and a noisy duck in a box. Tapping each one elicits the animal noise and in some cases other animations. On each screen, players can tap the moon to change it to the sun. They can also tap the happy little white cloud to turn him dark and stormy. Users can also tap the wheels to speed up or slow down the train. These first couple of cars are a free download. Open the rest of the cars with a single in-app purchase.
The remaining cars feature a variety of familiar friends. Horse, cow, and turkey hide in a darkened car. Owl and beaver ride on a log cart with their stinky friend skunk. Goat, pig, and blue bird snooze in the dark - wake them up by turning on the light. Lizard, stork, and frog occupy the water tank. Rooster, hen, and sheep bring up the rear of the train. Tap on each friend to hear the noise and elicit other reactions.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
This app is nicely geared to our young children. There are no buttons to distract the kids other than the locks to unlock the darkened cars. The app opens and begins playing immediately. The cause and effect tapping is a great way for young students to learn how to use the iPads. Additionally, kids love anything having to do with animals. Throw a train theme in there and they won't know what to do with themselves!
Overall, Animal Train for Toddlers is a cute app for teaching about cause and effect on the iPad. Cute animated animals make noises and interact with each other in a way that will be enjoyed by our young toddlers.
