What the App Does-
Perfect Dog-Ultimate Breed Guide by Preposterous Media LLC is a fun, free app that is available for the iPhone. The app will also work on the iPad, although a new version specifically for the iPad is in the works.
There are a couple of features on this app that are really interesting. First, there is a database of over a hundred different dogs. It includes both common breeds (chihuahua, yellow labrador retrievier, German shepherd) and some unusual breeds (puli, basenji, mastiff). It is possible to get a profile and pictures of a particular breed, so you can learn about it in an objective way. Take, for instance, the beagle. A beagle is a great family dog, but did you know that beagles tend to dig and bark a lot? It’s right there in the app. Here’s another example, the sheltie. A sheltie is a beautiful, elegant, miniature cousin of the collie (I owned a sheltie for 15 years), but consider the amount of shedding this dog will do, plus the fact that a sheltie is shy around strangers. Armed with factual information like this, it is possible to rule in or rule out certain breeds. Narrowing the search makes your choice that much easier.
The second feature is a called Fetch. By inputting specific characteristics of your “perfect dog”, the app generates a list of potential breeds to consider. I put in “great with kids,” “medium sized,” and “short hair”. Out came no less than 20 different breeds to consider.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked-
If it sounds as though this app is intended for adults, that’s true, but I also know that kids love to check out different dog breeds and dream about the most perfect dog in the world. This app is designed for that very purpose. I have already recommended Perfect Dog-Ultimate Breed Guide to a friend who is interested in getting a new dog. If you find a cute puppy that’s available for adoption, check out the breed before you fall in love with those dark eyes and floppy ears.
Conclusion-
Giving this app to your children will guarantee that they will soon start lobbying for a new dog. Kids, if you need a way to start the conversation with your parents, this is it. Do your research first, make a list, and you will sound so smart. Bottom line, Perfect Dog-Ultimate Breed Guide can’t guarantee you a perfect dog, but it can point you in the right direction.
