Green$treets: Top Educational App for Kids to Become Money Savvy

Green$treets

It’s never too early to educate your children about making wise choices with their money.  Green$treets: Unleash the Loot! is an educational app that gives children important lessons about why it’s so important to save their money.  It is a Top Pick because of the creative way it translates a complicated concept (financial responsibility) into an engaging experience for children ages 5-8.

Green$treets : Empowering Kids to be Money Savvy and Environmentally Responsible.

Green$treets: Unleash the Loot!, created by Neale Godfrey and developed by Fourth Monkey Media is part story app and part game app.  Penny Bright, the main character, introduces the story by telling your child that he can earn money to save an endangered animal.  She takes you to the Animal Book to choose an animal to save.  Since that costs money, your child is introduced to ways in which money can be earned in the neighborhood.  Penny’s nemesis is Schmootz, a little purple blob that creates messes.  Earning money comes through gameplay: chopping through weeds in the garden and shooting clothes and toys into the correct basket in the house.  When money is earned, some of it is put automatically into the Charity jar.  Then, the child decides how much of the rest of it goes into the Savings jar (to go toward the animal) and how much goes into the Spending jar (to spend at Bull & Bear’s Marketplace).

What Fun Educational Apps Liked-

This educational app is very well constructed.  It explains its premise to your child in a clear manner, and it takes him step by step through the story.   The messages are not heavy-handed or harsh; there is a fun, positive attitude integrated throughout the app.  Penny explains new words like “interest” and “charity” in a way that kids can comprehend.  One thing I especially like with the app’s construction is that the amount of money required to save the chosen animal gets larger as the game progresses.  That means that that your child is going to be chopping weeds and cleaning the toy room longer to reach their goal.

Very clever!

Conclusion-

Green$treets: Unleash the Loot!  has already been downloaded over 50,000 times, so the word has clearly gotten out.  It’s a basic course on money management for children, told through a winning story about earning money to save an endangered animal.  It is a Top Pick for Fun Educational Apps because it embodies our philosophy perfectly- that is, providing educational content to children in a way they can enjoy.

Green$treets: Unleash the Loot! is available for download via the iTunes App Store - Universal App
