Ubooly Pet- A new Generation of iToy Plush Game App for Kids
Ubooly Pet by Ubooly Inc.is a super-cute app that actually interacts with your child. After slipping your iPod or iPhone into the pocket, the app depicts the adorable face of your new orange friend. Ubooly talks to and answers your child as their relationship progresses. The Ubooly recognizes simple statements like yes, no, play a game, tell me a joke, tell me a story, and play music. Each of these commands has the Ubooly doing something different.
After prompting your child to answer if he or she wants to do one of the above activities, the Ubooly launches into an activity. Playing a game has kids acting out scenes as the Ubooly tells the story. The most recent one we tried involved being out to dinner, but falling into our pudding. Kids interact with Ubooly acting out the scenes as he tells them.
Ubooly also plays music from your device's library. I would caution parents to make sure music is kid-friendly as the music selections are random. He tells funny jokes and stories as well. I like the random facts that Ubooly tells. I did find that most of the stories and facts were geared toward older children. Though my three and a half year old still loved him!
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
Ubooly is adorable. I loved the orange little puffball that started getting toted around the house as soon as he arrived. I also liked the interactive component of the app. My son enjoyed talking to Ubooly and listening for a response. As I stated, I found the facts and jokes to be beyond his young age - but he loved it none-the-less. For older kids, the wealth of knowledge that Ubooly shares is random and neat. I'd love to see a child go into school and tell his teacher about prehensile monkey tails - something he learned from his Ubooly! The jokes and games are fun and imaginative as well. We also enjoyed the mundane task of putting Ubooly to sleep. A simple tap and hold puts Ubooly to sleep, while another tap wakes him back up. (Additionally, you can double tap to skip a game or activity if you don't like or understand it.) One last thing that appeals to me is the "green" aspect of this toy. An Ubooly press release makes an excellent point about the fact that this toy was developed to utilize old iPhones or iPods. How many of us have an out of date or little used iDevice floating around our house? Give it new life by making it into Ubooly's face! I like anything that has me recycling my old devices.
Overall, this app and plush toy combination is a lovable addition to any house. The app comes boasting 100 jokes, 30 stories, and 50 activities. It also claims to have holiday and season specific activities as well. In addition, the app updates monthly with new content, making this toy one that changes all the time. Kids won't become bored by the same old stories and games. I love that the constant updates will keep this toy fresh. It makes updating the Ubooly something to look forward to. I'm anxious to see what else is in store for us and our new "pet".
