Leo's Pad 2 is the second installment and another top pick from developer Kidaptive, Inc. With the same stunning graphics and an abundance of great preschool level activities, Appisode 2 lives up to its predecessor's high standards.
Fun Educational Apps - TOP PICK
Leo's Pad 2 features Leo, Gally, and Marie (Da Vinci, Galileo, and Curie) on their quest to build a rocket for Gally. With new and different skills from the first appisode, this is a completely different experience in a familiar setting. The app opens to find Leo and Gally working on their plans for the rocket. The user helps them out by tracing various parts of the rocket and placing them, puzzle-style, into a blue print.
After creating the blue print, the continuous, video-like story continues on with the problem of how to create rocket fuel. The boys head over to their friend Marie Curie's house to get her ideas. Here users need to listen to specific directions to mix various colors to create specific hues of rocket fuel to power the ship. Before taking off, players also have to sort pieces of the rocket before it is completed.
As the rocket blasts into space, tilt the iPod left or right to explore various celestial bodies. Aside from practicing directional words, the facts and images found in outer space are stunning. Combine all of these great preschool skills with high quality graphics and video, and this app is a favorite in our house.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
The activities in this app are perfectly aligned with the things that young children are eager to learn and explore. Each of the activities is fun and different from other apps. The tracing game creates a realistic looking blueprint. The color mixing activity has a few great features. First, players have to listen to three step directions to put the colors in the mixer correctly. Second, after mixing the colors, players get to see how different hues are created. Sorting and direction words are other great skills for my preschooler to practice. The added bonus is the great information about outer space that my son has learned. "Earth - Mommy we live there!"
Additionally, the app is intuitive, tracking your child's progress and adjusting to meet his or her needs. I really love that the app will keep your student answering questions that are at the right level. By challenging students to answer harder questions, but easing off if the questions become too hard, the app continues to give kids a sense of accomplishment while keeping them engaged with new skills.
Overall, this app is another top pick for parents looking to thoroughly engage preschoolers in a great learning experience. I love that that my son is super engaged by a "movie" as he calls it, and I get to watch him explore and learn essential skills.
