I Love You Little Bird is the app version of the children's book by author Jennaya Monroe. It features a young bird's questions as he tries to figure out if his mother will always love him. Like any story of this genre, the mother bird reassures her baby that no matter how dirty he gets, how far he flies, or if he does things wrong, she will always love him. Focusing on worries that young children can identify with, this story is a feel-good experience for the whole family.
As an app, the story works like a traditional book. It opens to the copyright page and users tap the arrow to turn the pages of the book. Small interactive components keep young readers engaged. On some pages, users simply tap here and there to see small movements of the birds. Other pages have more in-depth interactions. Throw mud on the page, pop bubbles, build a nest, or chase baby bird. Other pages add things the more you tap - add more birds, more flowers, even fireworks at the end.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
This app is a heartstring puller for any parent. The baby bird's insecurities are all things that can and do happen to any parent with young children. Reassuring youngsters that they will always be loved is so important. Having a variety of stories and ways to do this makes parenting just a little bit easier. I liked that this app has a Read to Me and a Read by Myself option, allowing older readers to use the app independently. The interactions in the app are fairly subtle, so they don't detract from the storyline. In addition, while the animations are simple and the type that can be accessed by simply tapping, it makes this app interactive even for young pre-readers. There is no need for cause and effect touching - simple touches activate the interactive components.
Overall, this is a sweet story with an ever so important underlying message of a parent's love. Children and parents alike will enjoy the small interactive components and the potential for some quality time with a good book.
