As children mature into teens, they start thinking for themselves. As difficult as this process is, parents recognize that it is critical for teens to know and understand themselves, their personalities, and their values. Astroloquiz: iPad and iPAd and iPadn Mini Educational App to Help Teens Develop Personal Insight-
Astroloquiz is a series of “What if?” questions. Example: The personality trait is “optimistic.” The situation is this: Your friend didn’t do so well on his test. He only got a 50%. He is really upset about it. What would you tell him? A) It’s OK! You will do much better next time. I can help you study. B) You have to study harder!! I will help you. C) That’s not good at all. Why didn’t you study harder? By answering a certain way, the teen shows how optimistic he is in this situation. Other personality traits include: adventurous, ambitious, curious, cynical, determined, energetic, humble, imaginative, moody and sensitive.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked-
This is a unique approach to the subject of personality and self-awareness skills in teens. The app is designed to be totally non-threatening- there are no right answers and no wrong answers. It’s actually fun to go through and pick the answer that is most like you. That’s really the message that I thinkAstroloquiz is trying to offer. Also, when the quiz is used in a small group format, it can stimulate conversations about using the perspective of others to understand why they do the things they do. Think about how many arguments could be avoided if teens could see a disagreement from the other point of view.
Technically, the artwork and the sound in Astroloquiz are top notch. They are clearly intended to reach a teen audience. Voiceovers are clear and natural sounding.
Conclusion-
Astroloquiz has different goals than do most apps. It’s purpose is to help teens understand themselves better. While overt references to astrology make it unsuitable for classroom use, Astroloquiz does appear to have merit for use in other small group settings. I would also recommend it for adults who want to gain some insight into their own personality.
