Addition for Kids is a cute addition app spanning ability levels from simple single digit addition to multiple digit addition with regrouping. The app has cute graphics and provides a great way for students to independently practice math skills.
Addition for Kids focuses on basic to complex addition with a cute astronaut monkey to guide players through the experience. With two levels, basic or advanced, students can choose either to practice and test themselves.
At the Basic level, students can practice in the Learn Addition section. Step by step directions explain how to count manipulatives to solve simple single digit problems. The New Problem button allows players to continue with the lesson until they are comfortable. Choose the Test Yourself button to solve problems. With both a number sentence and counting manipulatives, students hear the math problem read aloud. After choosing one of three answers, the astronaut monkey is either shaken by a robot arm if the answer is wrong or given bananas if he is right. A narrator reads the entire problem and correct answer each time. Practice 10 problems and get a score. Score a 70% and unlock the next level.
At the Advanced level, students again can choose five levels of practice. Directions are given in step by step format to solve multiple digit addition problems both with and without regrouping (carrying). The test section works the same as the Basic level. Given multiple digit problems, students must choose the correct response and score a 70% or better to unlock the next level.

Addition for Kids is a super cute math app. Focusing solely on addition allows the app to spend a lot of time developing this basic skill. The step by step instruction at both the Basic and Advanced levels gives students the chance to get independent lessons on how to add. After following directions, users must get the correct answer before moving on the next problem. I also really like that students must achieve a 70% on the tests before unlocking the next level. This provides students with a substantial level of independent mastery before moving on. In addition, the astronaut monkey is cute!
Overall, this is a good app for children looking to practice any level of addition. From the most basic of counting skills to the more advanced regrouping skills of 4 digit addition problems, students at multiple levels can utilize Addition for Kids.
