6a00e3982283618833017ee6336e3e970d-200wiIf you are looking for an interactive, high quality storybook app to explain the story of Jesus' birth, then we have a new top pick for you.  The Nativity Story - Popup Deluxe Edition by Puddle Tap Publishing Ltd. is a brand new release featuring the traditional story of Jesus told in a beautifully interactive manner.

Fun Educational Apps - TOP PICK

The Nativity Story - Popup Deluxe Edition 1The Nativity Story - Popup Deluxe Edition is a beautifully illustrated book with simple interactive components to keep readers engaged.  The story starts out strong with old fashioned illustrations in a classic wood-cut style.  The multi-layered look of each page gives a true popup book feel to this story.  The illustrations are clear and vivid and consistent with the theme of the story.  Even turning the pages has a realistic feel.  The book just fits together really well.

Readers start with an introduction to Mary and Joseph and follow them as they travel to Bethlehem.  As the couple look for a place for Jesus to be born, the reader accompanies them as they search an inn, house, restaurant, and market.  The narration and story are well done and have a great rhyme and rhythm scheme that will appeal to young listeners.

The Nativity Story - Popup Deluxe Edition 2On each page, readers are incorporated into the story through simple animations and interactions.  On some pages, the reader must progress the story by tapping on speech bubbles to make the characters talk.  On other pages, the readers must knock on doors and windows, pull curtains, even move the donkey to continue the story.  In some areas, readers simply activate sounds or motions with simple tapping.  Each page is unique and engaging, keeping the reader's attention.

What Fun Educational Apps Liked

This app is a really gorgeous storybook app.  The simple and classic illustrations really fit the story of Jesus' birth well.  The lilting narration and rhyme patterns make listening to the story a truly enjoyable experience.  Though, I did like that older readers could choose to read the story themselves.  By advancing the story through tapping speech bubbles or interacting with the scene, the developers have ensured that readers remain completely engaged in the experience.  The easy relationship between Mary and Joseph is illustrated beautifully with the speech bubbles and text.  The concept of following the couple through Bethlehem really brings home the struggle they had to find a place to stay.

Overall, this app is a beautiful tale of Jesus' birth, told and animated in a way that will hold a reader's attention from beginning to end.  As a  top pick, this app is not just a good story with nice illustrations, it's a full immersion into a classic tale.  Readers young and old will find themselves drawn into this traditional story and will want to read it again and again during the holiday season.
