Teaching Table is great teacher tool created by developer Openset. This extensive app allows teachers to create a variety of math lessons using built in manipulatives. With its endless possibilities for digital math lessons, it is also a top pick as an educational tool. Perfect for teachers looking to create review lessons, extra practice sessions, or quizzes for struggling learners, this app helps teachers to "flip" their classroom and make it student centered.
Fun Educational Apps TOP PICK
Teaching Table is a huge app. It has multiple levels of activities for teachers to create mini lessons for students. There are a nice selection of already created lessons in the areas of: addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, counting and comparing, and fractions. The true worth of this app though, is in the fact that it is completely customizable. Teachers can create their own lessons on specific topics geared towards their own students' needs.
There are a lot of customizable options on this app. When creating your new notebook, or lesson, start by choosing what types of manipulatives you'll use. Choose from dice, money, tangram shapes, fraction parts, counters, or base ten blocks either with grid lines or without. Manipulate the location, color, size, and amount of any of these manipulatives.
After choosing manipuliatives, begin to create questions. Choose a counting mat tool, a multiple choice question widget, or an open ended question widget. Again, all are customizable. Add text anywhere on the page to give instructions, teach a lesson, or label parts. Add pages to your new notebook to extend or continue the lesson. Create as many lessons as you need and save them in your notebooks menu.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
This app could easily become a valuable teacher tool. With great graphics and a wide variety of tools and questioning devices, the possibilities are endless. There are so many different ways to customize each page. Teachers can change the colors, size, or amount of anything. Add text, flip through different fractions or shapes; the sky is the limit. The developer has obviously worked to accommodate any teaching style as well. Simple little tools, like the ability to change the fraction shapes from a circle to a rectangle and the ability to hide the fraction or have it shown, make this app a standout. One last great feature of the app is the extensive help notebook that gives step by step tutorials on how to use every tool within the app.
Overall, this app is a great teaching tool. It's got an email option to send this lesson to others to use. Creating iPad lessons is a tool that is becoming more and more common in our digital classrooms. Teaching Table is a top pick for this teacher and one that I will be utilizing in my own classroom.
Teaching Table is available for download via the iTunes App Store - iPad and iPad Mini App
