Santa Snoop by Round Trip Software is a cute new app from first time developer Round Trip Software. Track Santa across the horizon using a radar-like screen. Lock in on him to listen in on what the man in red is up to as he prepares for his big night.
Santa Snoop is not just a Santa tracking app. It is a really simple interface, with no buttons to push and nothing to manipulate. The app utilizes the iPhone's camera capabilities to help you scan the horizon until you spot a little floating Santa (hint: think NORTH pole!). Lock in on Santa's location and listen in on what he's doing as he prepares for his big trip.
After locking in on Santa, users hear a short-wave radio style clip of Santa as he goes about his preparations for Christmas Eve. He may be working with the reindeer, in the toy shop with the elves, or even sleeping. When I checked in tonight, it sounded as if he was writing his naughty and nice lists. I'm anxious to hear what he's doing on Christmas Eve!
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
This app is really simple to use. There are literally no buttons to push. Simply scan the horizon until a beep sounds that Santa is nearby. Get Santa in the middle of the screen and you automatically hear what's going on. I liked that it wasn't a blatant announcement of his activities. It was a realistic peek into his life. Users will have to listen and infer what he's doing as he prepares for his trip. Additionally, the app actually shows how many miles away Santa is at the top of the radar. While pointing north, it shows that Santa is over 3,ooo miles from our house! I wonder where he'll be on Christmas Eve.
Review Update: What when young kids play with Santa Snoop -
"I had my son check it out while I was making dinner last night and he talked to it for nearly a half hour! All it does is find Santa and give you a sound clip about what Santa is doing. He was so into it! Ran to the window looking for him, talked to him and the reindeer, checked behind the iPad for him, put nose prints on the window looking for the reindeer, and on and on. It cracked me up. Goes to show how an app can be such a different experience for a kid versus and adult. It was really cute. The magic of the season through our child's eyes is something that my husband I are really enjoying this year. Hope it is just as magical for your family."
Overall, this app is a really cute way of turning the tables for kids to be the ones checking in on Santa. Its really simple interface makes it easy to use for even the youngest child. I can see this being appropriate for any age child wanting to check in with Santa Claus. I wonder what we'll hear the next time we check in!
Santa Snoop is available for download via the iTunes App Store - Universal App
