Songs are a powerful way to teach very young children about Jesus and His love for His children. A new Christian app, “Jesus Loves Me” has combined a sweet, animated music video with fun activities that introduce children to this timeless statement of faith.
“Jesus Loves Me,” from Listener Kids, is a Top Pick because it takes the traditional melody and lyrics and presents them in a fresh way that will appeal to today’s kids. There are four different components to the app: an animated video segment, a sing-along/karaoke segment (that allows children to record their own voice singing along), a short memory game, and an educational segment in which two of the characters present mini-lessons on Bible verses that reinforce the concept that God loves us.
What Fun Educational Apps Likes-
Jack the Squirrel and Scarlett the Bunny appear throughout the app. They are adorable little characters with the voices of real children. Their music video is a beautifully composed piece with a gentle, comforting tone that brought a tear to my eye. The instrumental background music includes a flute, bells, and a harp. I feel strongly that this app is not a “once played, then done” experience. Children will play it again and again and again.
I like that this app is appropriate for children as young as two years old. They won’t understand all the words at first, but they will be able to follow the melody and sing along as they are able. Parents love when they see this happen, and they cherish the memories of moments like these.
The teaching segment is a unique addition. Jack and Scarlett talk about 6 Bible verses that reinforce the concept of Jesus’ love. The language is simplified, but the message is clearly stated. Here are two of the verses they include- Romans 8:39 “Nothing can separate us from the love of Christ” and I Corinthians 13:8 “God’s love never fails.”

“Jesus Loves Me” is a solid addition to the Christian app market for young children. It is technically impressive as well as spiritually sound. Since the app is designed for beginners, it is a perfect choice for parents who have decided to return to their faith now that they have children, as well as for parents who are firmly grounded in their faith.
