Piano Ball is a vibrant app with stunning colors and sounds that will fully engage your toddler. With two layouts - full keyboard and a split keyboard, the app is great for those children just learning to use an iPod or iPad. With four spinning balls to manipulate, there are lots of options for this musical app.
Piano Ball is not just a piano app, however. It is also educational. The first of four rotating balls changes the colors and the hues of the keyboard. It doesn't just do different rainbows either, it covers color schemes of a specific color. It also verbally identifies the colors and allows for a wide variance in color. The Rainbow ball switches the keyboard back to a rainbow effect. Double tap either ball to lock in the color scheme.
Learn Songs, the ball with music notes on it, switches the songs that toddlers can play and practice. Each color note enables a new song. Tap and hold the ball for one second to change to a different set of songs for 10 tunes total. Double click on the Green Smile button to enable Toddler Mode. This allows any key to play the next note correctly so that the song is always correct. Follow the magic stars to learn new tunes. For a variety of instruments, roll the Instrument ball to switch between piano, xylophone, saxophone, and drums.

This app is a top pick because of the outstanding colors, sounds, and navigation geared toward toddlers. The app has gorgeous colors that can be manipulated in a nearly addicting way. Between playing the keys of the piano and rolling the balls around, the app is great for developing fine motor skills. The added bonus of learning not just the colors of the rainbow, but the different hues that make up each color scheme just make this app a must-have. Plus, just for fun, if you shake the iPod, you are blasted with a shower of stars and an introduction to each instrument. With ten built in tunes, all familiar to the preschool crowd, the app is well rounded and more than just a basic piano app.
Overall, this app has some great features perfect for your youngster. I can say I've played with a lot of piano type apps in the past, and this is one of my favorites. As a parent, I like that I can lock color schemes by holding the buttons for one second, or I can just allow my child to freely explore the app. I'm confident that this app, with it vibrant colors and fine motor manipulation will be a favorite of many young children.
