Matryoshka! for kids by Kidoteca is a cute toddler game based on the idea of Russian nesting dolls. Players must remove the tops of nesting animals to discover who hides inside. Later, reassemble the pieces based on size to put the dolls back together again. This app is highly engaging for the toddler age group.
If you are looking for a new app for your toddler, Matryoshka is a good pick. Players are given the choice of three sets of nesting animal dolls. Choose a cow and farm scene, dolphin and ocean scene, or elephant and jungle scene to begin. Each scene has a themed background and a large animal waiting to be taken apart. The cow is a five piece nesting puzzle, the dolphin has six pieces, and the elephant has seven.
To play, simply take the top off of each piece and remove the nesting animal within. Continue until the baby inside is revealed. Once the player has unpacked the puzzle, put it all back together again. Players must use size differentiation to put the dolls back together again. Take the puzzle apart and put it back together to reveal a fun item popping activity at the end of each scene.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
This app has a really cute concept. My three year old son was easily entertained, though I can see children as young as 18 months understanding the concept. The graphics are cute and the Russian sounding theme music is appealing. The high interest animals, all in an appropriate theme, are also an attention grabber at this age. I enjoyed that in order to put the puzzle back together again, kids have to differentiate by size to pack the animals back together again. If the animals aren't in the right order, then the animals simply won't stay put together. This makes it easy for young players to know that they've got to find another piece.
Overall, this game has a cute concept that is easy for young kids to play. The high interest animals and excitement of finding out what animal comes next keeps kids engaged in the game. The app is easy enough to play independently, but can easily be played with an adult to extend the learning. I think this app would be a nice addition to any family's collection.
