Educam Classroom Viewer is a brilliant new top teaching app available from developer Ken-A-Vision. The app works in conjunction with the Ken-A-Vision document camera or digital microscope, sending images from the teacher's camera or microscope straight to the students' iPads. Students then have the freedom to annotate the image in any way, and save their work.
Fun Educational Apps Top Pick
Teachers looking to add a cool new app to their toolbox will really enjoy Educam Classroom Viewer. To begin with, teachers will need either the Ken-A-Vision document camera or digital microscope. After installing one of these devices, teachers can utilize the app to send students whatever image is viewable on the camera.
Here's where the learning begins. Students can explore whatever image the teacher sends them from the camera on their own iPad. They can also annotate the image in many ways. There is a pen tool with 4 different sizes and a selection of 25 colors. Additionally, students can easily add text by clicking the Text button. Add text (in the same sizes and colors available for the pen) by typing in the text, moving, and pinning it in place. Add labels to images by using the arrow key to draw arrows to certain aspects of the image. When you are finished, simply save your image to the photo gallery.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
This app has infinite possibilities. Teachers can plan any sort of lesson using an app like this. Virtually anything that a teacher would hand out, show in front of the class, or post on an interactive whiteboard can instead be sent directly to a students' iPad. Additionally, the students can mark up, label, and draw on any image. So instead of doing a boring worksheet, students instead are creating their own notes on images directly from the teacher. The app was super easy to use and easy to model for my students. It took only a time or two for my students to master the annotation tools and they were quickly drawing and labeling pictures. I loved that when they were finished, students saved their work to the photo gallery on the iPads. They then emailed me a copy of their work. I quickly and easily graded the images and have some really great, authentic work from my students.
Overall, this app is an incredible tool for teachers. It takes student work to a whole new level, putting the learning directly into the students' hands. Students are engaged in lessons that have them creating products instead of simply viewing a lesson.
