Tooth Monster HD Pro by developer JINIBINI is a new, educational storybook app. Help Jini and Bini fight off the plaque monsters in three tooth brushing games and a cute story about the importance of brushing your teeth.

With incredible graphics and interactive pages, Tooth Monster HD Pro starts out strong. Players can choose to play one of three games or read the storybook from the opening menu. The story has high quality images and animations that will fully engage readers. The story begins with two children flying to the White Smile Kingdom. Soon, the Plaque Monsters attack the kingdom looking to turn it into the Black Plaque Kingdom. With a unique take on what happens to your teeth if you don't brush regularly, the app has vivid pictures, cute songs, and a plot that will get kids thinking about good dental health.
This storybook app is very well done, but might be most appropriate for kids able to deal with the idea of poop in a story without gaining bad habits. The premise behind the Plaque Monsters is that it is their poop that helps destroy teeth. Cavity Fighters like toothbrush and toothpaste help clean the monsters and the poop away. Additionally, the app does have animations of bleeding gums as the Plaque Monsters destroy the White Smile Kingdom. While this story line is very thought provoking for older children, younger players might not get the same lesson out of the book.
After listening and interacting with the story, players have three game options. First, Brushing Teeth is a step by step game where kids have to manipulate a toothbrush to brush all of the places one should brush regularly. It is very detailed, inner and outer teeth on both the left and right sides, and don't forget the tongue!
Hide and Seek is a look and find game. Players have to find 5 different items in six scenes from the book. Tap the item once you find it. Find all five items in each scene to move on. Lastly, play the Plaque War, a slightly addicting tap to destroy game. Tap the plaque buildup and Plaque Monsters to keep your teeth healthy. A note of caution here: players must also tap on piles of poop to clean up the teeth. If you do not clean up the plaque and monsters quick enough, the gums begin to bleed and teeth begin to break.
Fun Educational Apps Liked
There is a lot to like about this app. The animations and images are very well done. It is obvious that the developer put a lot of time and effort into creating a storybook and corresponding games that children would be engaged in. Little things like the songs and player interactions just serve to make this app really well rounded. The games are engaging and fun to the point of slightly addicting. My husband and I found ourselves competing for the high score in Plaque War long after our son had gone to bed. The book and games also teach a valuable lesson about dental health. While I'm not wild about the poop references as a parent of young child, the pages vividly show what happens when kids don't brush their teeth. And all in a way that is easy for kids to understand. The Brushing Teeth game also does a good job of pointing out all the places one should brush - giving kids a concrete idea of where to guide their toothbrushes each day.
Overall, this app is an excellent storybook app with great interactive games to go along with it. I do believe that this app is best used with kids over the age of 8, or those who can handle a story with the word poop in it. The only thing holding me back from calling this a top pick is the "poop factor". I'm just not sure how I feel about my child battling monsters that poop in our mouths. In all other regards, this app is outstanding.
