Speech with Milo Articulation Board Game: Common Sounds Pack - Top New Kids App Release!

Speech with Milo Articulation Board GameSpeech with Milo Articulation Board Game: Common Sounds Pack by Doonan Speech Therapy is the latest in the Speech with Milo series.  Created by and with Speech Pathologists, this app focuses on practicing common articulation sounds that many students struggle with.

Top New Release!

Speech with Milo Articulation Board Game 1Speech with Milo Articulation Board Game: Common Sounds Pack is a really unique way of approaching a skill that is often only practiced with rote repeat and adjust type drills.  Students in speech therapy, or students who simply struggle with common sounds will enjoy practicing articulation skills using this cute app.  Modeled after a traditional board game, up to five students take turns spinning, moving, and saying various words with specific target sounds.  This app focuses on the beginning, medial, and ending sounds of /F/, /V/, /K/, /G/, /S/, /Z/, /CH/, and /SH/.

While the kids are playing a cute and engaging board game and practicing trouble sounds, the teacher or speech language pathologist is keeping great data on each students' pronunciation.  At the start of the session, the adult can input up to 20 students to monitor.  While putting in student names, the adult also adds which sounds that particular student needs to practice.  Choose from beginning, medial, ending, or all sounds for each of the targeted common sounds included in the app.  Choose as many or as few sounds as needed.  When that student's turn comes up, his or her word will focus on the selected sounds.  As each student says the correct word, the adult monitoring the game (or other students if applicable) choose a checkmark for correct, an x for incorrect, or a wavy line for assisted for each word card.  If the student says it incorrectly first, but then self-corrects, press the correct buttons to mark this as well.  Buttons can be pushed more than once.

What Fun Educational Apps Liked

Speech with Milo Articulation Board Game 2The data keeping and organization of this app will be an incredible tool.  At any point during the game, the students or teacher can access the data to see the percentages of correct, incorrect, or assisted sounds for each target sound selected per student.  Additionally, this information can be emailed to the teacher.  By having up to 20 student slots, teachers can easily utilize this in a therapy or classroom setting.  The unique individualization of each student's target sounds is also a great bonus.  Students will only focus on the sounds that they need to practice, not everyone else's target sounds.  On top of the great data keeping for teachers - the app is also just cute.  Students will enjoy the traditional board game layout.  Spin the spinner, move the correct amount of spaces, but don't get moved back!  This is a nice change from articulation lessons that are often just drill and repeat type activities.

Overall, this app is a great tool to add to an articulation toolbox.  Speech language pathologists will find this really user-friendly and can collect a huge amount of data easily.  With individualized student settings and the nice breakdown of the commons sounds into beginning, medial, and ending sounds, this app has a lot to offer.  When I shared this app with a speech pathologist friend, she immediately went and purchase it.  She is already planning on using it next week!

Speech with Milo Articulation Board Game: Common Sounds Pac is available for download via the iTunes App Store: iPad App
