Sentence Builder App has a tremendous amount to offer. Begin by managing accounts by adding users. Parents and teachers can access progress reports on each user. From there, choose Level 1, Level 2, or Self Created Lessons. Each level has sentences sorted by sentence structure: Subject+Verb+Adverb, Subject+Verb+Noun, Subject+be+Adverb, and so on. Additional categories are Colors and Numbers, Time of Day, Seasons, and Who-What-Where-When-Which-and Why. After choosing a sentence to practice, the student is shown a picture and a corresponding sentence is spoken aloud. The student must then drag words and punctuation to recreate the sentence correctly. If the student has trouble reading, tap the word to have it read aloud. Check your sentence to earn an award, or go back and fix it.
Level 1 of the Sentence Builder App offers 250 sentences to create. Each screen has the correct words out of order. Level 2 increases the difficulty by offering the same sentences with many word choices. Students must find the correct words, make sure the first word they choose has a capital letter, and that the last word ends with a punctuation mark. Plus, some of the wrong words are very similar: plurals instead of singular or different pronouns.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked:
This app is top pick for teachers and parents looking to help students learn to create grammatically correct sentences, learn correct sentence syntax, and increase listening skills. With so many different sentences to choose from, plus the increased difficulty of Level 2, this app has incredible depth. But in addition to all of these great sentences, parents and teachers also have the option of creating their own sentences. Choose from a huge variety of pictures, or use your own, to begin the sentence. Type in your sentence. Either use the computer generated voice or record yourself reading the sentence and each word independently. On top of all of that great individualization - you can upload your self created lessons to your Dropbox account and share them among your other devices. This is just an incredible time saving tool for teachers using iPads in small group or even whole group settings.
Overall, this app has a simply overwhelming amount of educational material. With the different difficulty levels, the huge selection of sentences, and the endless possibilities of the Self Created Lessons, this app will continue to be new and useful throughout the entire school year. As a teacher, I've already begun creating sentences for my students to work with in a literacy center. I can't wait to see what other ways I can use this app in my classroom.
