Let's Make a Rhyme is a silly nursery rhyme app with a wide variety of activities for the preschool and young readers crowd. With six customizable nursery rhymes, unique games, and a huge art section, this app has a lot to offer. From developer Short, Bald and Lanky, this iPad app will give your family hours of creative entertainment.
Let's Make a Rhyme opens up to a choice of six familiar tales. Chose from Incy, Wincy Spider, Humpty Dumpty, Three Blind Mice, Little Miss Muffet, Hey Diddle Diddle, and This Little Piggy. Turn through the pages and read the familiar tale. But this app has more to offer.
Begin by customizing each nursery rhyme. Choose new characters to tell the story with. Tap the artist's pallet on the home screen to use the variety of tools to customize your own story. Each page from the story can be fully manipulated with a variety of colors, brushes, and an enormous amount of stickers. Plus each sticker can be resized and rotated to fit your unique design.
In addition to the countless ways to create your own rhymes, each tale has a unique game to go along with it. Incy, Wincy Spider gives you a speed test with three difficulty levels. Tap the suns as fast as you can to dry up all the rain. Humpty Dumpty has a puzzle with pieces that need to be rotated to put Humpty back together again. Three Blind Mice has a slightly disturbing game where the farmer's wife has to cut the tails off the mice as they spin around. Little Miss Muffet has a memory game with three difficulty levels. Hey Diddle Diddle has a more traditional jigsaw puzzle to solve. This Little Piggy has a follow the pattern game with the five little piggies.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked:
This app has such extensive creative opportunities. For parents looking to spend some quality time with their children creating a story, this is a fun way to be interactive. The amount of sticker options and colors allow the artistic side of any reader to shine as they create new scenes for familiar stories. The stories can be saved to be enjoyed repeatedly. For readers using this app independently, the mini-games within each story provide an engaging break from the story.
A note to the developer: One thing I didn't love was that this app is one of those where you can't control the volume. Even with the volume on the iPad turned all the way down, the sound effects were still loud. The only way to mute them was to turn them off completely or to mute the iPad. Additionally, after we finished each story the app completely shut off. It was easy to start back up again, but I wish that it just kept running.
Overall, this app has nice depth, allowing parents and children to use it over and over again to create new stories every time. Children will enjoy nursery rhymes with their own twist and the engaging games. Parents will enjoy spending quality time doing something educational with their children.
