i Learn with Boing: Ocean Adventures is a brand new top pick from Tribal Nova. Staying true to their reputation of delivering high quality apps, Tribal Nova has done it again. Ocean Adventures is a great pre-school app focusing on vocabulary, sentence formation, and listening comprehension.
A FUN EDUCATIONAL TOP PICK!
Focusing on three essential language components, i Learn with Boing: Ocean Adventures provides a place where kids can be immersed in language development. Choose from a hidden picture vocabulary game, a sentence creation activity, and an indentify the position words game. Each game has beautiful graphics and cute concepts.
The octopus vocabulary game asks children to listen and locate 4 hidden objects. Objects are located behind and beneath items in a two screen setting. Tap on items to find the objects hidden in bubbles to fill four of the octopus's arms.
Sentence Formation can be played as either a one person or two person game. With three levels, the game gets progressively harder. In level one, drag 3 things to circles to create a sentence. The circles are colored coded, not letting the player create sentences out of order. Level two adds some extra words to give players more choice. Level three adds cards that are adjectives to go with the noun words creating even more complex sentences. At each level, after the sentence is formed, an animated sentence illustrating the creation is shown with the words of the sentence underneath. The partner aspect comes in when both players don't look to see what their partner is playing and a silly sentence is made.
In my opinion, the highlight of the game is the Listening Comprehension game. There are few quality apps working on position words. This app is a great newcomer to this category. With three progressively harder levels, players need to listen and touch the place described. Positions may include: next to, on, in, behind, or in front of. Level two adds a color dimension. Players need to find the position with like objects of different colors. Level three adds size to color in the identification game.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
This app is beautifully done and very engaging. Each activity builds on an essential language and speaking skill. Two of the three games have progressive levels that increase the rigor of the activities. I really liked that each time you play the games you get different options and different words to work with. Additionally, as I said above, there are very few apps dealing with position words, so this app automatically goes in my toolbox to help young students and children to understand these basic concepts. Like all of the apps in the series, this one too is linked to the main data base. This allows parents to check the progress of their children on each topic. It also allows players to earn prizes for use in the i Learn with Boing world. Having access to student progress is always a nice touch for parents and teachers.
Overall, i Learn with Boing: Ocean Adventures is an excellent addition to the i Learn with family. The high quality of the app and the excellent level of instruction using these basic concepts really makes the app a great learning tool. Parents and teachers alike will love the monitoring aspect, and kids will simply love the game-play of the app.
