Cobypic is a new Top Pick if you are looking for a completely different and totally engaging coloring app. Most coloring apps offer a wide variety of colors and brushes for a child to use as they fill in a picture. Cobypic takes it to a new level - the world is your color palette!
FUN EUDCATIONAL APPS TOP PICKS!
Cobypic has created a totally unique way of engaging kids in coloring pictures. Instead of sitting on the couch and choosing colors and brushes, kids are up and using the camera of the iPhone or iPad to find various colors in the world. Using the classic finger frame icon, kids have to locate the right colors to fill in the different parts of each picture.
Begin by choosing a picture from one of the following coloring books: Happy Animals, Moving Machines, Big Book of Bugs, Super Human Heroes, The Cool Life of Prairie, When I Grow Up, Musical Monsters, Gold Medal Sports, CBP Fall '12, Egyptian Hieroglyphics, The Art of Woodblocks, or Great Paintings. Each coloring book has three copies of five different drawings. Select a drawing and take a look at the colors in the circles at the bottom. Choose a color and start exploring. The app does a great job of using the finger frame to teach kids how to use the iDevice to take a picture. Find something that matches the selected color and snap a picture. The corresponding section of the blank picture will fill with the photo you took. Make sure to explore textures and prints as you choose your colors. It truly makes your picture come alive.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
This app is a Top Pick because of the unique way children are engaged in coloring. Using the world as a color palette opens up so many colors, styles, textures, and choices. Kids are applying and creating as they color instead of remaining sedimentary. This is such a great example of how technology is enhancing our children's experiences. While I love a good coloring book, this just takes it another step. Also, there are such a wide range of pictures available to work with. From simple, four color animal pictures, to much more complex, ten-color Egyptian Hieroglyphics, the range of pictures will engage kids from young to old. I'm already thinking of passing this app on to my art teacher to incorporate into her ancient art unit!
Overall, this app is just cool. It's such a unique way of engaging children in exploring the world and color. My three year old son loves it as much as the ten year olds in my class do. The app is engaging the students' minds and bodies in a truly creative endeavor. For these reasons, Fun Educational Apps considers this a Top Pick.
