The Scariest Halloween Story Ever: Top Storybook App for Kids!

The Scariest Halloween Story Ever

The Scariest Halloween Story Ever is Fun Educational Apps' newest Top Pick.  Developer 3CD has done an outstanding job creating a beautifully interactive Halloween storybook app.  With an awesome narrator and gorgeous graphics, this app was enjoyable for the whole family.

Fun Educational Apps - Top Pick!

The Scariest Halloween Story Ever 3The Scariest Halloween Story Ever is narrated by a little boy trying to convince the reader not to read any further.  He warns us not to read any more if we're scaredy-cats or chickens.  But don't worry, should you continue on, the narrator, called Candy Corn Man,  is wearing his "no-spook protective suit."  The narrator immediately builds a great first-person rapport with the reader, supporting us through the experience (all while still trying to convince us to quit reading).  Each page has some sort of reader interaction like flipping road signs or scaring the pants of a stick figure.  Candy Corn Man walks us through each page.

The story has two modes, read to you with or read it to yourself, the narrator's style and voice make the app believable.  He asks you to decide and choose whether or not certain aspects of the story are scary.  Your reward? Fun things to do.  Use skeleton bones (sidewalk chalk) to draw scary pictures and splatter the walls with monster eyeballs (spaghetti and meatballs).  The level of interaction in this app is wonderful, keeping the reader fully engaged from beginning to end.

What Fun Educational Apps Liked!

The Scariest Halloween Story Ever 2This app has incredibly high quality graphics and outstanding narration.  The voice of the boy fits the story perfectly.  The rapport between the reader and the narrator is brilliantly done, making the reader invested in the story.  The wide variety and level of interaction in the story is also great.  Some pages have nothing more than to turn the page using the candy corn arrows, while others have in-depth activities liking drawing and splattering meatballs.  The building suspense of the story keeps the reader turning the pages until the end...although the narrator claims no kid has every made it that far before!

Overall, The Scariest Halloween Story Ever is a high quality Halloween storybook app and one our Top Picks.  Its interactions and animations are beautifully done.  There are some mildly scary moments that leave this app with an age nine and older rating on iTunes.  However, I sat and read it with my three year old and we talked and joked through the whole thing.  He absolutely loved it.  With parent supervision and discussion, this app could definitely be used with younger kids.  I'd recommend previewing the app to make sure your younger child could handle the ideas.

The Scariest Halloween Story Ever is available for download via the iTunes App Store: iPad App
