My First English Words: Top English Language Learning App for Kids

My First English WordsMy First English Words is a top English language learning app from developer SuperMemo World. This iPhone and iPad app will teach children ages three and up a selection of English vocabulary words in a innovative and fun way. From finding hidden objects to identifying words, this app gives learners an environment to be successful as they learn English words. Fun Educational Apps Top Picks!

My First English Words 1After entering up to four children's names, My First English Words gives a choice of languages for the instructions to be given in: English, German, Spanish, French, Russian, or Polish. From there choose one of five scenes to begin the English language adventure. After choosing the beach, outer space, an artist's studio, the jungle, or a medieval castle, learners begin with a simple identify the objects type activity. Each scene focuses on a different set of vocabulary words. The beach has a variety of words, while the rest are more specific. The outer space scene focuses on numbers, the artist's studio on colors, the jungle on animal names, and the medieval scene on fairy tale vocabulary.

My First English Words 2In each scene, find the ten objects that will be identified with both the written word and audio, and will move with cute animations. Each scene has fun and engaging animations that will amuse the learner. After finding and practicing the ten hidden words, move on to the exercises. First, practice the ten words by touching the object after the word is stated aloud. Miss the word, and your alligator host shakes his head no while the misidentified word does a cute animation that lets one know that it's wrong (the sun scratches his head, the mountain crumbles, etc.). If you get the word correct, the alligator shakes his head yes and the animation does the right thing. Next, given the object, identify the written word. Unable to read the word? Simply press it to hear it read aloud. This app is differentiated for every level of learner.

What Fun Educational Apps Liked

My First English Words3This app is not only fun, it's engaging and completely educational. It's selection of words, for the most part, are useful and important to young children. The amount of different animations is astounding. All of the random animations are cute, but add to that the animations when the hidden objects are identified, and the animations when objects are misidentified - there are simply a ton of cute things to manipulate and watch. This is a top app not just because of the variety of things to do, but because of the different ways that learners practice new words. Aside from simply identifying the objects, learners then have to identify the object given the word and identify the word given the object. These levels of practice will reinforce the new word, and give the learner different ways of practicing the language.

Overall, My First English Words is a top pick if you are looking for an engaging and fun app to begin learning the English language. For young English speakers just learning vocabulary to students of English as an additional language, this app will provide young learners with a fun way of practicing new vocabulary. It'll be an app that learners will return to since it makes learning English fun.

My First English Words is available for downlaod via the iTunes App Store: Universal App iPAd/iPhone/iPod
