Do you remember as a child getting a still-damp mimeographed lesson, printed in a bright purple, from your teacher? Those were the days, weren't they? Nowadays, personal computing has practically taken over our lives, including education. This actually quite a good thing. Most adults would be surprised at how many gadgets are present in the typical grade school classroom today! How are teachers introducing and using this technology? It turns out, they're using it in quite a variety of ways. One of the great things about most of this technology is that children with a variety of disabilities have better access to learning, instead of just sitting on the sidelines while their peer benefit. Technology brings knowledge to everyone!
Fun Educational Apps is glad to announced a new addition to theiDevBooks series: Polynomial Long Division, a top math app that teaches your kids or students how to solve Polynomial Long Division problems step-by-step. Highly customisable and easy to use it almost makes Polynomial Long Division simple and easy!
Polynomial Long Division can look quite scary and intimidating for students. In order to help and support kids learning, this math app takes your kids step by step through the whole process and provides an easy, stress-free and non-intimidating way using a step-by-step method where wrong answers are not penalized in any way.
Definition: “In algebra, polynomial long division is an algorithm for dividing a polynomial by another polynomial of the same or lower degree, a generalised version of the familiar arithmetic technique called long division. It can be done easily by hand, because it separates an otherwise complex division problem into smaller ones.” Source: Wikipedia
On opening Polynomial Long Division you will first need to go to the setting and customize the app to suit your need. There, you can customize the setting for each problem by setting the number of dividend degree, coefficient factors, and letter use to denote variables. Then can you choose the method you wish to follow to solve the problem as well as the method for presenting each step. You can also customize the appearance.
Once done, you can either work on your own problem or use a pre-set one.
To work on a pre-set problem, simply tap “New” on the top menu bar.
To work on your own problem, simply enter your data.
Once ready … you can start solving the equation. Each time, this app will tell you what to solve. If your student know how to do it … Let them keep on going … If they need help, kids can simply tap on “Help me” and the app go over each step, telling them which what to do step by step.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
Polynomial Long Division can be scary and intimidating and Esa Helttula has done a wonderful job in making the process easy and accessible for many students. The app offers a high level of customization. We liked that student can work on either pre-set problem for practice or use it as a tool to solve their own homework problem. We are sure you will like the flexibility the app has to offer where kids can start solving a problem using all the help the app has to offer and as they move along they can start typing their own answers. Ultimately, students will be able to solve a Polynomial Long Division without any help from the app and hide the current division, multiplication, or subtraction step!
As kids works on different levels, parents and teacher will be glad to know that they can have positive and negative coefficients that can be whole numbers or fractions. They can control how hard random problems the app generates. And that they also have complete freedom to set their own problems. The dividend can be a forth-degree polynomial and the divisor a third-degree polynomial.
Other feature we liked are the “History” where you can you can save and revisit past problem and that in every screen there is a build in calculator!
Although Polynomial Long Division can look complicated this app makes it quite easy. It guides students step by step, telling them what to do. Student can play back problems step by step or with an animation, and can also stop the playback at any time and continue to solve the problem on their own. We think this app can easily be used in the classroom, ideal as part of school program or individually as a learning tool and homework helper.
Overall, another top app from iDevbooks and as with all Esa Helttula apps, we like the way each app is set up. Unique math apps that offer an easy to use interface, a step by step process that makes tricky and complicated math problem easy to understand. Polynomial Long Division is a highly recommended app for all student that need the extra help to master math problems! … and a TOP PICK for Fun Educational Apps!
