The Animated ABC Book by Jim Bryson, is an animated ebook available for iPad2. The book is available for download in iTunes and can be accessed using iBooks. It is a cute animal alphabet book with animations on each page. Babies and toddlers will love this introduction to the alphabet.
The Animated ABC Book is an engaging alphabet book featuring an animal for each letter of the alphabet. Hit the play button in the middle of the screen and watch a cute 2-5 second animation with sound of each animal. The illustrations and pages are simple, creating a visually appealing page for any 1-4 year old. The text is not read aloud, but is repetitive and will make a great first reading experience. Each page has an "A is for alligator," type sentence, showing a large capital letter, and colored font. The illustration of the animal is simple and clean. To play the animation, simply hit the play button in the middle of the screen. A parent can manipulate the video from the control bar at the bottom. Swipe the pages to go on to the next letter or return to a previous page.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked:
The parent in me really liked the easy interface this ebook offers. My toddler easily turned the pages and played the animations. He very quickly figured out that if he wanted to play an animation again, all he had to do was swipe ahead a page and then go back. The big play button in the middle resets after each page turn. That made the ease of use of this book perfect for young children. There was no need for him to try and use the control bar at the bottom. The teacher in me liked the simple layout and repetitive text. Even non-readers can 'read' the text after just a few views. This book is a great tool to practice the alphabet in a fun and engaging way. I also liked the selection of animals. From simple alligators and bears to more unique animals like koalas and vultures, the book runs the gamut of animals. With cute animations and sound effects, this app was a hit in our house.
Overall, The Animated ABC Book is a cute alphabet book that is both engaging and educational. With simple illustrations and text, the book is perfect for the one to four year old crowd. Practicing the alphabet with this book will be fun and easy for readers and non-readers alike.
