Keys Kids Play HD is a fun musical app created for both iPhone and iPad by developer Toward Mobile. If you are looking for a cute first musical app for your toddler or preschooler, this is sure to be a hit. With four different sections, the app provides lots of music and sound interactions for kids aged one and up.
Keys Kids Play HD opens to a menu with four choices of musical activities. The first is Animal Piano. It has got a basic keyboard interaction, with some cute twists. Choose one of four sounds: piano, violin, harp, or flute. Add a background beat by choosing one of four animals. One of our favorites was the DJ record scratching sounds achieved by swiping the record player. Create your own tunes using a standard keyboard interface.
Rainbow Xylophone, the next activity, is a 17 key xylophone that plays multiple keys at a time. When each key is hit, a cute animal note is played. This is sure to delight the youngsters. Additionally, choose the Instrument Cards activity to explore the sounds of eight different instruments: brass, castanets, maracas, drums, cymbals, the triangle, tambourine, and wind chimes. One last activity is the UFO with an alien. Pushing the alien, buttons, or rockets creates varied electronic sounds.
What Fun Educational Apps liked:
This app has a lot to offer for the toddler and preschool crowd. Each of the musical activities has enough to do to keep youngsters engaged. The developer claims that complex chords can be played as the app registers multiple keys being played at one time. In our explorations, the kids really enjoyed the piano activity and adding the background beats and scratching the records. I enjoyed hearing the kids make up lyrics to go with their tunes. Each activity provides a different musical experience. I liked the differences in sounds between the instruments on the piano and on the xylophone. The record scratching and background beats were really modern and fun for the kids as well. I also really liked the electronic sounds in the UFO activity. A lot of new music utilizes these sounds and they will be familiar to our children. It was fun to have them explore these sounds on their own terms. Additionally, the Instrument Cards section had some random instruments that I liked seeing. Castanets and maracas aren't seen every day. I liked that this app gave such exposure to so many different types of musical sounds.
Overall, this app will provide kids aged one and up with a fun musical experience. The variety of activities and sounds will keep kids engaged and entertained. In addition, it's a really nice introduction to some new sounds, not just the typical piano sounds. If you are looking for a fun introduction to musical sounds for your little one to play with, this is a great app to start with.
