Farm Joy & Co is a cute 4-in-1 game app pack for children ages two to six. From developer AJA Digital Media, this iPhone/iPod/iPad app explores the four seasons on the farm and gives young children several engaging games to play. From puzzles, to memory cards, to hidden objects, this game will keep youngsters busy. A Fun Educational Apps Top Favorite!
Farm Joy & Co opens to an easy to explore, spring time farm scene. Touch the animals to hear realistic sounds and swipe left and right to expand the farm. Change the season at the top to see the farm in different times of the year. Each season allows you to touch the animals for noises and has a small interactive element (for example build a snowman in the winter). Even the farmer is customizable at the bottom. Simply click on the farmer icon at the bottom and choose a new farmer.
The app also includes three games. The first is a puzzle game. Unlock 12 animal puzzles by completing each. Drag the pieces to the right spot and they lock in place. The puzzles each have between 7-10 pieces and aren't too challenging.
The next game icon at the bottom is for the memory game. With three levels of difficulty, this is a standard memory game using farm animals, fruits, vegetables. Pick a matching pair and the pair disappears, get it wrong and the cards flip over again.
The last game is a hidden object game, and in my opinion, the best mini-game. Given the inside of a barn, players must find the 8 objects presented in both words and pictures at the bottom. Some of the items are easier to find than others, but all are easy enough for this age group. If a player gets stuck, use the magnifying glass or question mark for a hint. The developer says there are more than 100 hidden objects to find.
What Fun Educational Apps liked:
This app is perfectly suited for the 2-6 year old age bracket. The simple game play, the cute graphics, and the animal noises will make the youngest players happy. The puzzles aren't too difficult, and the kids really enjoyed the fact that they were animals. I liked that the memory game had three levels of difficulty. We especially loved the hidden items game. In the ten or so times we played it, we had some items repeat, but never had the same eight items. I played the game with a three, five, and seven year old, and all were equally entertained. I loved that some items were easy enough for the three year old to find, but others took the seven year old a minute or two to locate. It gave enough variety that all of the kids were engaged at their own levels.
A Note to the Developer:
I loved that this app gives an introduction to the seasons. I think it's a great way to get young kids talking about the differences in seasons. I would love to see you do more with this. Maybe have a different hidden item scene for each season with season-appropriate items. Or change the puzzles depending on the season. Perhaps baby animals in the spring and older animals in the fall. That's a fairly untouched concept and I love that you are starting to hit on it.
Overall, this app is a fun farm app for kids aged 2-6. It's got enough variety to be appropriate at both the youngest and oldest ends of that spectrum. The hidden object game is one of the best I've seen for that age level. If your child loves the farm, this app will delight them. A Fun Educational Apps Top Favourite!
