As many of us in Europe are getting ready to celebrate V-E Day, “commemorates 8 May 1945 (in Commonwealth countries; 7 May 1945), the date when the World War II Allies formally accepted the unconditional surrender of the armed forces of Nazi Germany and the end of Adolf Hitler's Third Reich” (ref: Wikipedia) Fun Educational Apps thought it would be a nice idea to let you know about this great app: World War II Interactive, a very comprehensive app on World War II made specifically for the iPad to help our kids to never forget what happened!
On opening the app, you will find a video showing a brief introduction of the events of World war II. The app is then divided into 9 areas:
- 1918 – 1938: Roots of the War
- 1939 – The War Erupts
- 1940 – German Blizkrieg
- 1941 – The War Spreads
- 1942 – Axis Advance Stalls
- 1943 – The Tide Turns
- 1944 – The Axis in Retreat
- 1945 – Victory for Allies
- Post 1945 – Aftermath
Each area goes into details with text, pictures (over 600) and videos (35) to allow you or your children to learn about all the major battles and events related to WW II. Topics covered includes the Rise of Hitler, German Blitzkrieg, Winter war, Battle of France, Dunkirk, Britain, North Africa, Operation Barbarossa, Pearl Harbor, Holocaust, all major battles of Pacific war theater, D-Day, Burma, invasion of Italy, Germany and Japan, atomic bombings, etc…
You can use World War II Interactive 2 ways. You can either tap on the “Events” button and review each event individually or tap on “Timeline” and go over War War II as it happened.
What Fun Educational Apps Liked
I was very happy to review World War II Interactive as two of my kids are studying it at school. Reading war books at a young age can be a bit hard and this history app made a great difference. I liked the way the app is designed as it allows student to read, learn or review by selecting specific events or view the war on timeline and review the war as it happened. This app is very useful for everyone that has an interest in the subject or for all middle or high school kids studying WW II at school. It covers from before the war by showing what lead the world to war, during the war and the Aftermath so your kids can get a complete overview of World War II.
It offers tons of information but it does it in concise and interactive way which makes it accessible for everyone, even to the young ones. It is easy to navigate and the kids at Fun Educational Apps really enjoyed looking at all the pictures, over 600, watching original video (over 35) from the war as well as listening to the various speeches from the leaders.
The kids also really liked reading about the “Roots of the War” which describes why and how World War II started. They liked the idea of learning about the war via an interactive app. It allowed them to visualized the war on the timeline and read a summary of the events as the occurred, where it happened, who was involved and what the result happened to be. The kids thought it was a great alternative to traditional book as it is more entertaining and engaging.
Fun Educational Likes that this app combines various support (Text, visuals and audio) it allows kids to get all the info they need in place. It made it a lot easier for them to review what they had learned in the classroom …it can also be a great way to present such a vast and complex topic to those kids that do not like history so much!
Overall, World War II Interactive is a full comprehensive history app that provides a wonderful detailed content about all the major facts about World War II. It is well designed, offers great content and even kids as young as 10 year old will enjoy learning about the war via a rich interactive experience with text, photos video and speech.
