Monster Physics, the latest fun educational app for iPad/iPhone/iPod by Dan Russel-Pinson is a top interactive science app for kids. It gets your kids to think analytically about physics and motion. It allows for complete control of the creation of anything, from crane to helicopter, from car to plane. Use a variety of parts and materials to explore the concepts of motion and complete missions.
Monster Physics app is unique and explores the concepts of friction, gravity, acceleration, and motion through a variety of tasks and missions. There are few interactive science apps available, but this one is a keeper. Using a variety of materials such as metal, wood, rubber, plastic, and ice, students can play and interact with the concepts of friction. Using various shapes and parts including joints, rotors, propellers, rockets, cannons, thrusters, stabilizers, and even hover-bots, students can create and manipulate a variety of vehicles. Starting with a lengthy tutorial (which you shouldn't skip) you learn how to weld pieces ranging from training to advanced, asks you to either move your avatar to the finish line with specific goals, or to feed your avatar fruit using mechanics like the crane. The missions are challenging and require an engaging level of thought to complete. This app seems most appropriate for students aged 10 to adult. Perfect for a budding engineer or eager problem solver.
The app allows for five player profiles and avatars, making it good for families or small groups in a classroom setting. I really liked the level of engagement in the missions. They are fun to play and make exploring these science topics interesting. When trying to figure out how to get from Point A to Point B, there are multiple solutions, so choosing the best one is up to the player. These multiple solutions also make the app something you can go back and play again - each time you play will be different. Being able to return to the app for multiple plays, makes this classroom teacher happy.
Overall, the look and feel of this app is excellent. With a learn section to review the science terms and skills incorporated and 50 different missions, this app has a lot to offer. Older students and adults will enjoy the complexity of the missions and the multiple solutions. The ability to replay the app is also a really great perk. Much like some of the other apps by Dan Russel-Pinson, Monster Physics is bound to be a hit with students and adults alike.
