The Nutcracker is a two-act program composed by Tchaikovsky. It was first played in St. Petersburg on Friday, December 18th, 1892 and has since then seen many different interpretation. The Nutcracker is a timeless classic especially around Christmas time. If you did not get a chance to listen to it yet, The Nutcracker Musical Storybook for iPad and iPhone is a fun and educational way to introduce both the story and classical musical chef d’ oeuvre from Tchaikovsky to your kids. It includes all favourite melodies such as Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, Waltz of the Flowers, The Nutcracker March, Russian Trepak, and many many others!

The Nutcracker Musical Storybook offers stunning illustration by Yoko Tanaka, an acclaimed children's book illustrator whose artwork has appeared in One Moon, Two Cats, The Magician's Elephant, and Sparrow Girl. Going over them you will discover many interactive elements.
We really liked the musical side of this app. It gives you and your kids and chance to watch and listen this classic ballet from Tchaikovsky. The focus is on music. The text of the story appears at the bottom of each page but does not offer a 'read to me' option. You can read the story to your kids, or more advance readers can read on their. Please note that from times to time, the reading is bit hard as the text appears and disappear, but the idea is to convey the musical and ballet feel more than a reading experience.
The app can be used 2 way. Story Mode, let you read the story at your own pace or Movie Mode, where you can just enjoy the experience and view this Christmas classic from beginning to end.
Overall, it is great representation of the Nutcracker. A top musical and storybook app that will keep you and the kids engaged and captivated. It offers stunning illustration and gives you the chance to listen to Tchaikovsky music, and if you want to enjoy it even more ... plug external speakers to your iPad and listen!
