“World Book Day was designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and is marked in over 100 countries around the globe. The origins of the day we now celebrate in the UK and Ireland come from Catalonia, where roses and books were given as gifts to loved ones on St. George’s Day – a tradition started over 90 years ago. For international information about World Book Day, please click here.”
The main aim of World Book Day is to encourage kids to read and discover books and develop a love for books and reading. The tradition is more on paper book but with the development of book apps on mobile devices such as the iPod Touch, iPhone and iPad, Fun Educational Apps wanted to help you discover a different way to read with your kids.
Reading on the iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch brings in a new experience. Book apps on these devices bring in interactivity and can help kids that are not so much into reading develop a new interest for books. Book apps should not replace traditional books but should be seem as an extension to reading.
A selection of 5 Best Book Apps
To share our love for reading here are 5 best book apps that the kids at Fun Educational Apps really enjoyed.
To start with:
Max - The mouse with (almost) perfect manners. Storybook app for iPad –iPhone and IPod Touch
Max the mouse is a charming story and beautifully illustrated by Henri. Henri Goldsmann is a great artist with “an eagle eye and a very blunt pencil”. His Comic Illustrations and caricatures have appeared in numerous publications, such as USA Today-Weekend, The Washington Post, The Seattle Times, Business 2.0 Magazine, AJAX Amsterdam Football club to name a few. Henri has now put his talent into a great storybook app with top illustration and a story that delighted my kids.
Max Nibblington is a Camembert lover with perfect manners, but when he takes his girlfriend Molly out for a birthday dinner; his manners are not quite as perfect as he thought.
A funny illustrated storybook for children age 3-5, teaching them that nobody is perfect, really. (Read more)

The Three Little Pigs from Nosy Crow for iPad
It is different, it is modern and it will create the “Wow” reaction from both parents and kids. It fresh and modern, one of these apps that really impressed us. Read it and discover all the interaction available and you will find out a completely new version of this classic tale.
Although the story line is still the same, The Three Little Pigs still leave their house, they still build a house and the big bad wolf is still "puffing and huffing" to get them; it is fresh, new and up to date; the bad wolf is not running any more but driving a van, it is not just 3 little pigs but brothers and sisters and you even get a chance to see papa pig! The The Mixed up Wacky Zoo from Robot and Cupcakes
The Mixed-Up Wacky Zoo, A Parade of Profound Proportions! is a top interactive story book about a boy who becomes witness to an out-of-the-blue parade of colourful animals! The story is beautifully illustrated and highly interactive. Tap on the animals and they start dancing and singing. Our favourite are the Zebras. Have a look they are really great.
In addition to the great illustration and animation, Fun Educational Apps liked the educational value of The Mixed-up Wacky Zoo, where kids can review the terms used for each group of animals such as a tower of giraffes, a dazzle of zebras, a bask of crocodiles …
Each page is filled with gorgeous traditional-style illustrations, silly music and sound effects, and animations to discover by touch. This story creates its own little adventure in your own home, or on the go!
